AET has successfully completed its first Bio-LNG trial, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing energy transition and its preparations for compliance with FuelEU Maritime requirements.
The trial was conducted aboard the dual-fuel Aframax tanker Eagle Brasilia, which underwent Bio-LNG bunkering in Rotterdam prior to embarking on a cross-European voyage. The vessel consumed Bio-LNG during the laden leg of the journey to meet FuelEU Maritime greenhouse-gas intensity requirements, with the voyage successfully completed on 10 February.
According to the company, the operation was carried out smoothly under full technical guidance and approval from engine partners. The end-to-end process was completed safely and without any operational or performance issues.
The results confirmed the technical compatibility of Bio-LNG with AET’s existing dual-fuel systems while also providing operational insights to support the company’s future fuel strategy.
AET said the achievement reflects its practical and disciplined approach to decarbonisation, with a strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
The company also acknowledged the contribution of the crew of Eagle Brasilia, its ship manager and decarbonisation teams, whose collaboration and expertise supported the successful completion of the trial.
The Bio-LNG trial forms part of AET’s broader commitment to deliver energy with lower emissions.
