Korea Shipping Company (KMTC) has agreed with the Hyundai Group (HD Hyundai Group) to build six new container ships.
According to data from Splash Maritime Research, the contract is worth 372.4 billion Korean won (US$258 million).
The data revealed that the contract is for six ships with a capacity of 1,800 standard containers (TEUs) to be built at Hyundai's shipbuilding facilities, and are scheduled for delivery between August 2027 and June 2028.
KMTC ranks 17th globally among container shipping companies, operating a fleet of over 60 vessels, primarily focused on intra-Asian routes. This latest order further strengthens the close relationship between the shipping company and the shipbuilding units of HD Hyundai.
KMTC has gradually moved towards larger ship sectors in recent years. Last year, the company ordered 13,000 TEU vessels from Hyundai, following a contract it signed in November 2024 to build two 8,700 TEU vessels from HD Hyundai Samho, at a price of approximately US$115 million per vessel.
